With an estimated 7 billion people in the world, the odds of finding your true love make actually finding YOUR TRUE LOVE even that much more amazing. Certainly, hanging around in the same circles, and having mutual friends, who are brother and sister, are bound to up the odds of meeting- just a little! That was the case for Katelin and Adam. The couple commented that, “We both had an eye on each other for some time, though it took a while before we were both single at the same time. But, once we started dating, we certainly wondered what took us so long!” …And isn’t that the amazing part- recognizing what is right in front of you and realizing you’ve found your love?!

Once the couple started dating, there was no question they had found forever. And oh my goodness, the couple have such an incredible engagement story! (I looked up the word ‘romantic’ in the dictionary and saw their proposal!) …Katelin and Adam were engaged in Sonoma, California over a long weekend in the wine country.  (Katelin admitted to suspecting the proposal that weekend, but wasn’t sure when it would happen!)

…You might be thinking Adam proposed to Katelin over an amazing glass of wine with a rolling vineyard set as the backdrop. Um, hello- that would have been a little obvious the question was about to be popped! Plus, Katelin told me that she gets very self-conscious when she is the center of attention, so Adam talked her into going on a hike with him the first morning of their trip.

With beautiful weather outside, the couple had the whole park to themselves.  On a bluff overlooking the ocean, Adam proposed and she said YES!  And as you can see below, Adam even managed to get a picture of the actual proposal, which the couple used for their save the date cards.  This should go without saying, but with a kick-off to a long weekend like that; of course the couple spent the rest of the weekend celebrating!!! …Bubbly anyone?! Cheers!!!

These Houstonians are headed to the alter June, 23, 2012, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in downtown Houston! The couple happen to be fortunate enough to have Reverend William Petron, a longtime family friend of the Pollocks who have known Adam for most of his life, to officiate their ceremony.

Their wedding should be simply amazing with the reception to follow at The Parador, and wedding colors of navy blue, shades of white and purple accents- LOVELY! (Just a little tidbit, Adam actually grew up a few blocks from where Katelin’s father grew up. This might seem like small beans, but given that Houston is the third largest city in America- I would say you can chalk that up to “very cool”!)

If you are familiar with Bering’s bridal blogs, then you know we always ask why the couple decided to register at Bering’s. It should be of no surprise we asked this glowing couple as well! One of our nation’s worst natural disasters is what brought these two Houstonians together! There is always a silver lining, and for Jacqueline and Jack, it was life changing. While the two met briefly in high school, a forced evacuation, due to Hurricane Katrina, from Loyola University, in New Orleans, brought Jacqueline back home to Houston for the semester. It was during that time that she was reintroduced to her now fiancé, Jack.

After a period of dating, the two were strolling around Jackson Square in New Orleans. When they arrived at the fountain in front of St. Louis Cathedral, Jack got on one knee and proposed. Suddenly, a jazz band appeared and started playing. Then cheers and screams emerged in the background. When Jacqueline turned around both of their families and friends were running towards them! The jazz band started walking to the French Quarter and Jacqueline soon realized Jack had organized a second-line parade with the band, their families and friends were escorted with a parade through the Quarter, (with a police escort) all the way to Antoine’s Restaurant. …Aww, so very sweet and romantic- nice job Jack!!!

…Wait for it, wait for it…! The two are set to be married April 15, 2012!! It sounds absolutely amazing too. Jacqueline and Jack have chosen Naples, Florida for their destination wedding. Their ceremony will take place on the beach with the reception to follow at The Ritz-Carlton.  With a wedding color palette of white, light blues and light pinks- it is sure to be absolutely divine!

When Jacqueline was asked why she registered at Bering’s, her answer was too kind! She said, “Registering at Bering’s Hardware was a no brainer for me! I’ve grown up with Bering’s: my family business, International Stoneworks, Inc. is a vendor at Bering’s. Even as a little girl, my father, Rawi Tabbah, would take me on the weekends to check on our stone restoration products and I would sneak off and see the famed Bering’s parrot! Bering’s has everything from fine china to cooling racks, so I always knew I would register at Bering’s for my wedding. “…Thanks Jacqueline, we couldn’t have said it better! (And by the way, we are big International Stoneworks’ fans too!)

It GETS EVEN BETTER. Jacqueline and Jack have also decided to do their wedding invitations at Bering’s! This is such an amazing couple!! Julia and Adam are a very dynamic duo with a wonderful life ahead. I am excited about introducing you to this pair. When trying to decide how to “re-tell” how the couple met, I decided it would be best to credit the groom-to-be, Mr. Adam Stellar. Here is his version (It is very funny!):

Julia and Adam met on a dark and stormy night in Fort Worth, April 17, 2008. Adam left work late, because he is a hard working, dedicated member of Jetta Operating Company’s land department. After leaving the office, Adam headed to “Chimy’s”, a newly opened bar in Fort Worth. Dark clouds were quickly rolling in over 7^th Street, but he figured it was just a typical Texas thunderstorm. He parked his car and went inside to meet one of his buddies, Jonathan. He took a seat at a booth and waited for his friend.

Unbeknownst to Adam, his future wife was sitting in the booth across from him, having some chips and salsa and a few too many margaritas. Julia had turned twenty-one a week earlier and was making sure everyone was aware. Normally soft spoken and reserved (*cough), Julia was taking the small, sparsely populated bar by hostage. She had arrived with a gaggle of friends, which piqued the interest of Adam, who was unattached. Before approaching the group of young ladies, Adam had to build up some courage. After several drinks, he had almost mustered up the nerve to face the group. However, he became distracted when he received a YouTube video is his Inbox from one Bo Hannis.

This video was not up to Kinkaid’s fine standards, so when Adam began laughing and discussing the video with this friend, Julia turned around from her booth and gave both an annoyed look and her patented “Really…Really?” She turned back around in a huff and Adam ignored her. He had already retrained his sights on the handful of blonde girls in her entourage and had written her off as “the mean one”. With drink in hand Adam approached the group and sparked conversations with several of her friends. They weren’t interested. Ashley had some big shot TCU baseball player boyfriend, and Adam knew Candice and Laura wouldn’t fall for his charm so he had to start talking to “the mean one” again.

She wasn’t that bad, but he was still wary of her. As neither of them seemed very interested in the other, Adam went to go close his tab and head to another bar with more courteous young women. Before he reached the register an announcement was made, “NO ONE IS LEAVING!! HAIL AND TORNADOS ARE COMING, NO ONE LEAVES THIS BAR!!”  So there he was, stuck in an empty bar with one friend and a group of girls that didn’t like him, so he tried to make the best of the situation. He bought some drinks for the girls and began talking to Julia again. She started to lighten up a little.

The bar was pelted by rain, hail and wind for over two hours. Around 9:30 the storm began to blow over. Adam and Julia had talked most of the night and buried the hatchet. Around 10:00 Julia’s friends decided to go to the Aardvark, a TCU underage spot. Adam felt he was way too cool for this so told her to go on without him. Julia was crushed. She had just met the man of her dreams and he denied her invitation to accompany her to the Aardvark. She felt she would never recover. At least that’s how Adam remembers it.

As they were getting up to leave, Adam asked for her number. Julia gave it to him, of course, and also asked if he would drive her and Laura to their car because “it was parked far away”. Adam took a swig of his drink and responded, “I’ve got golf clubs in the back, looks like you’re walking.” Julia wasn’t nearly as amused as Adam.

That night they went their separate ways, but they continued to talk and see each other regularly over the next few weeks. Since then they have pretty much been inseparable – and sometimes insufferable. Adam and Julia have traveled the world together (thanks Doug and Roni!), been to family occasions and events, countless Rangers games, work dinners, graduations and hundreds of nights of just staying in doing nothing.

…I KNOW, I KNOW, let’s hear about the proposal!!! Here it goes… Adam proposed on Sunday, January 9, 2011! He proposed the weekend of Julia’s brother’s bar mitzvah, in Houston, so Adam came to Houston as well as his parents and the rest of Julia’s family. After the festivities on Friday and Saturday Julia’s mother had breakfast “planned” for Sunday morning. All of the family was at the house along with Adam’s parents when Julia walked into her brother’s room, where Adam was packing up to tell him she was going downstairs to eat. Since he was “packing” he was already down on one knee and as she walked into the room he took her hand and said some really sweet things and pulled the ring box out of his pocket!! Of course she said yes, and we went downstairs to a planned (unknown to her) celebration! It was extra special because her granddad was there who is 86.

The couple will be married on January 7, 2012 at Congregation Beth Israel, with a beautiful reception to follow at Hotel ZaZa. From what I hear, their guests are in for a treat! …With beautiful colors of navy blue, white and purple and lots of mirrors and candles- sounds amazing!!

You might be asking where the couple is from. Julia is from Houston. She went to Kinkaid for 12 years, and Adam is from Fort Worth. True Texans!!

When I asked the couple why they decided to register at Bering’s, Julia had a very nice reply. She said, “I’ve always known I was going to register at Berings. It’s the only place I thought of when I started picking out my china. My mom has shopped there for as long as I can remember!”

Oh the anticipation of their registry! …But first, we need the history lesson. It is so interesting to know if the pattern the bride and groom selected is a family one, or if it is a personal preference. …In this case, it is a personal one! Julia said she made around four trips to Bering’s and could not decide which pattern to pick out. She said she finally decided on Bernardaud China and was so excited to show Adam. She said they were in town one weekend when she and her mother brought him to Bering’s to register for some more items. Upon walking into the gift shop with Adam, he made a b-line for the gold script monogram pattern by Pickard and said he liked it. Julia placed it with Bernardaud’s Elysee pattern and realized that they looked great together! …So they registered for both of them! Mixing and matching is always a clever option! Also gorgeous is the couple’s selection of Francis I sterling setting and Waterford Lismore crystal!

With such a broad range of price points and styles, it can be a bit overwhelming deciding on a place setting. Bering’s bridal consultants go over your options with you, from how to care for your china, to mixing and matching and much more! The options are many, and the occasions you will use your china for are even greater!

Here are a some tips our consultants suggest when deciding on where to register, as well as which pattern to make your own!

1. Do you plan on adding to an existing relative’s china pattern? If so, you can always select a few pieces to go with the pattern, or select a complimentary pattern to personalize it.

2. What is your style? …What is your fiancé’s style?

3. Do you tend to lean toward casual, or slightly more formal? Many patterns are dishwasher safe, while others require hand washing.

4. Do you plan on decorating with your china? Many registrants like to hang plates and platters, as well as keeping their table set year round. This might help determine which colors go with your home décor.

5. If mixing your china with other patterns; it is best to keep the color of the china the same, but to build on accent pieces.

6. While some consider sterling silver flatware fit for formal occasions only, there is no reason why you should store it away only to be seen twice a year. Bering’s bridal consultant, Kyle Story, suggests incorporating silver into your everyday use. …Isn’t everyday worth celebrating?!!!

7. It is helpful to keep an Excel spreadsheet of gifts you and your fiancé have received, along with thank you cards that you have or have not written. Keeping an organized list of gifts also helps to determine exactly what you still need to close out your registry.

8. Some newly engaged couples are of the mindset that if nobody buys the pieces they’ve selected, what is the point? We suggest going with what you really like (regardless of the price point). This is suggested because your china is something you can build on and add to over your lifetime. Often time, even passing it down through generations.

9. While walk-ins are always welcome, it is a bit more efficient for you and your fiancé to call ahead of time to schedule a bridal registry appointment. This is best when initially registering, as well as after your wedding- when exchanging and/or returning gifts!

10. Don’t be afraid to think long term when deciding if registering for your china is really important to you. It might not be now, but it most likely will be in 20 years! …When the entire family comes to your house for holiday gatherings, a pretty presentation is a sure way to brighten the holiday!

11. Try to be mindful of your wedding guests! We suggest registering for a range of items with varying price points. This is pretty simple to do when you add in placemats, napkins, etc.

With all that goes into a wedding, it is easy to overlook the importance of wedding invitations. However, the invitation is one of the most essential parts of planning a wedding. Many hold the invitation as the foundation of the planning because it sets the tone of what guests are to expect on the wedding day, while at the same time helping them prepare for the event. As an invited guest, receiving a well thought-out invitation in the mail should make you ready for the wedding to arrive!

The way we present ourselves in verbal and written form can be very powerful and impactful. Subtleties like ‘what is in a name?’ are especially notable when making a formal
announcement to family, friends and loved ones. This acknowledgement and appreciation for holding something important enough to care how it comes across, is how I met Ms. Tina Fields and Mr. Jesse Campos.

While Tina and Jesse’s initial visit to the Bering’s Stationery Department might have seemed somewhat cut and dry when walking through the door, the newly engaged love birds would leave with a rich appreciation for the etiquette of ‘the invitation’. After all, wedding invitations are the first impression, and to some the most important.

Tina and Jesse will be married on November 19, at the beautiful Heights Villa here in Houston! The two were right on time in ordering their wedding invitations, and were welcomed by the Bering’s stationers.

Tina and Jesse met with Bering’s stationer, Leslie, to finalize their invitation details!

While I am not a stationer, I happened to be in the department when Tina came in to pick up her invitations. She was a glowing bride-to-be and opened up about what she had learned.  In fact, I asked the couple to do this blog because of her genuine excitement about the process. It was refreshing to hear what she had to share; especially in an age of online stationery fulfillment.

Bering’s stationers Mary and Leslie helped guide the couple through the history and formality of the wedding invitation. The pair had many concerns, as most couples do when selecting their wedding invitations. They were curious as to why it was necessary to do a double envelope, as well as the need to add a piece of tissue.

Before the 20th century, the postal service wasn’t very reliable. In fact, it was nearly nonexistent in certain areas. The only guaranteed way to deliver a wedding invitation was by hand delivery, usually sent by a hired courier or servant of the family. Since many of these deliveries were by horseback, the envelope might not arrive in the cleanest condition. Thus, the double envelope was designed. Once the courier reached his destination, he handed the invitation to the butler or housemaid, who then removed the outer envelope and handed the inner envelop along with the invitation to the master or mistress of the house. This is why it is now considered traditional to use the complete, formal name and address of your invited guests on the outer envelope of a double envelope set (or on the outside of a single envelope).

As mentioned above, there was also a question as to why it was necessary to include a thin piece of tissue in the invitation.

There is a fun piece of history behind the tissue insert. Metal plate engraving was
invented by the 1600s. Since the engraving would easily smudge, a small piece of paper was placed on top to prevent this. That custom was simply passed on to preserve the delicate printing of wedding invitations and continues to be commonly used today.

You might be asking why all of the above is important to fold into your wedding invitations. Tina’s quote sums up this question, “Etiquette and manners have no borders it is straight across the line, there are no borders at all, it is just manners and etiquette and it is good.” She then added, “Rather or not the people receiving our invitation know the etiquette doesn’t matter. The important part to us is that we know it was done right.”

Another special detail that Leslie and Mary were able to suggest to Tina and Jesse was to place a little cross by Tina’s recently deceased father’s name on the wedding invitation. The couple was not sure how to include her father with the recent passing, and with this added touch, Tina said, “My mother stood a little taller when she saw it.”

As far as why the pair decided to order their invitations from Bering’s, Tina’s sister made the suggestion. Tina mentioned that she was a bit nervous about the cost, but that it wasn’t as much as she thought it would be. She added, “It was affordable, and with all things it is a matter of prioritizing what is important.”

While in the Stationery Department, Tina showed Jesse their wedding album… Isn’t is gorgeous??!!

Now that you’ve read your fill of all things stationery, let’s dig into the juicy details about the soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Campos!

Even though Tina and Jesse have known one another since high school, and graduated the same year, they took their time getting around to dating one another. This is partially attributable to the fact Jesse served our country in the U.S. military for the past twelve years. (Salute to Mr. Campos!) While Jesse was off serving, Tina was in the clouds- literally!! Tina is a Continental (and now United too) flight attendant, who flies internationally.

However, the two were destined to meet again.  Tina was placed as one of their high school reunion organizers. As a way to rally the troops for the reunion, Tina began searching on Facebook. This search is how the two reunited, and a wonderful friendship was formed. As friendly as the two had become, unfortunately Jesse missed the reunion! …I suppose after so many years, what is a few more months?! And to Jesse’s credit, he was called up to
go back overseas.

Nonetheless, the two continued talking. When Jesse finally returned to the great state of Texas, Tina invited him to her family birthday party. Talk about a FIRST date! Tina’s
entire family (extended too), and friends were there. Fortunately, family is equally important to Jesse and after their first date, the two were inseparable. In looking back at their first date Tina commented that it was like, “My best friend walked through the door.”

Months later the two had a slight “spat” and Jesse told Tina, “I bet you $10 you will marry me.” Tina laughed after Jesse shared this tidbit with me. She was not happy at the time and did not think his statement was funny at all!

It turns out Jesse won the bet. Upon rounding out their two year courtship, Jesse asked Tina’s mother for permission to wed her daughter. Not only did Tina’s mother say yes, but
Tina did as well! Oops, I cut to the chase without sharing the sugary sweet proposal details!

…Good things come to those who wait, so here goes the proposal fun.

Upon retiring from the U.S. military, Jesse took a job in Las Vegas, NV. Tina flew out to meet him for a little visit. The two decided to walk around and explore the Vegas strip. Little did Tina know when she suggested the two go to the Venetian, that Jesse
had already made arrangements to propose there. Aren’t coincidences fun?!

After making their way to the gondola ride, Jesse got down on one knee (in the gondola) and asked Tina to marry him! She was overjoyed and without missing a beat, said “YES!”

Here is a little fun trivia for you. This dynamic duo share the same last name- only in two
different languages. In Spanish campos means fields! Tina joked that she will always be Ms. Fields! :)

Talk about a fun filled wedding blog, there is still more! Hello, we still have the exciting registry to share!!… So without further ado, let’s dish.

The two kicked off their wedding registry with Bering’s Bridal Specialist, Terry. She set the two up with a scanning gun and then helped get the cute couple started with their many options!

BFF – three simple letters that capture a very special relationship. Do you remember your childhood best friend? For many of us, a best friend has spent long days and nights giggling with us, exchanging notes in class, and dreaming of the day that we would find
our Mr. Right. Little did we know in childhood that Mr. Right is literally the ultimate BFF; he is a partner and best friend forever!

Nicole “Niki” and Taylor ran into one another a couple of times, and eventually a friendship was formed. …And talk about convenient- the two met because they lived in the same apartment complex! I’d say it is definitely meant to be. :) After a year in the “friend-zone”, and tons of Rocket’s games, Niki and Taylor began dating.

Over the next two years the pair grew closer and closer. Taylor said he knew she was the one all along, but really honed in on “forever” this past holiday season. The two spent Christmas with both of their families, and experienced true family fun! “We knew it was

A few months later, Taylor picked Niki up for dinner, but told her he left something on at his house- so he needed to run back by to turn it off. When they pulled up, Taylor “casually” suggested Niki should come in too. She walked in to perfectly placed tea light
candles displayed to read, “Will U Marry Me?” (I know, I know, does it get any better than this?!)

While still in a state of aww, Taylor kneeled down on one knee and asked Niki to marry him!! She said yes! Ladies, this is not a Hollywood story- it really did happen.

The soon to be Mr. & Mrs. will be married November 12th, at Pleasant Green United Methodist Church in Durham, North Carolina. The location holds a special place for them since it is where Taylor grew up. Adding to the excitement, Taylor’s grandfather is the priest marrying them!

When I asked the couple why they chose to register at Bering’s, Taylor had the perfect sound bite, “Bering’s covers all aspects of our lives.” If you are new to Bering’s this quote might seem a bit interesting. However, Bering’s truly does carry it all- from stationery, to lawn & garden, to hardware, to paint, to Baccarat and the list goes on!

Now that we’ve “met” the adorable couple, let’s take a peek at their amazing place setting and other fun items on their Bering’s registry!

The two started their wedding registry with Bering’s Bridal Specialists, Julia and Adams. The couple was drawn to the classic edginess of Juliska’s Berry & Thread place setting. You cannot go wrong with an amazing white place setting. The endless ways of mixing and matching it with colored placemats, accent plates and accoutrements are so much fun!

Barware: The couple selected some amazing barware by Saint Tropez and Reed & Barton.…I’ve already invited myself over to cheers with these spectacular pieces!

Once the two wrapped up their registry items, it was time to start picking out their napkins for the rehearsal dinner and WEDDING!!

Bering’s stationer, Mary, met with the couple to review their many options. Fun was had by all as they perused the range of choices.

And don’t you love their wedding album by Ivy Lane Designs?! …I wonder if this wedding blog will find its way into the album (not so subtle hint)…
